Enrollment is underway for USD 253 Emporia Public Schools.
Parents can enroll their students either online or through any mobile device, which is strongly recommended by the district. USD 253 Community Relations Director Lyndel Langren says tall families should have received correspondence from the district earlier this week to help direct them to the online enrollment process.
For those who need to enroll their students in person can schedule an appointment between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm weekdays at the Flint Hills Learning Center between now and Aug. 1 with the only exceptions being Jul. 22 and 29 where hours will be 9 am to 1 pm. Beginning Aug. 3, all enrollments will be by appointment only between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:30 pm.
On Aug. 10 all enrollment will be completed at the Mary Herbert Education Center. For more information or to schedule an appointment please contact the district by calling 620-341-2200 or visit the district’s website USD253.org.
The enrollment process began Monday, just 24 hours before the district announced a special board meeting for 3 pm Thursday where school board members could pause or permanently cease operations at William Allen White Elementary. The board is set to consider a staffing crisis plan at that time to address what the district calls its current staffing crisis, which involves 12 certified staff positions open at the elementary level, three certified staff positions open at the secondary level, almost 30 classified positions open district-wide — not including activity drivers or paraprofessionals — and over 30 para positions open.
KVOE News has been told district administrators will not comment on the meeting until after its completion.
