As local residents continue to battle oppressive heat, one thing they should not have to worry about is unexpected power outages related to a high volume of energy demand.
That’s according to Evergy Spokesperson Gina Penzig who says the power grid is in good shape and ready to handle the increased energy use that typically comes with heatwaves such as the one currently impacting the KVOE listening area. While residents should not be concerned about high usage increasing strain on the power grid, they should be concerned about how it will affect their energy bills.
Penzig says there are several ways to help keep your house cool while not breaking the bank.
Penzig also says while they’re confident the heat itself will not lead to any large-scale outages, that doesn’t mean mother nature can’t still play a factor.
In the event an outage was to occur, Penzig asks residents to be patient as the oppressive heat can mean longer restoration times with crews battling the elements in addition to repairing any damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
We may receive a small break from the recent heat wave later this weekend into the upcoming work week. Slight to moderate thunderstorm chances begin Sunday night and continue for most of next week bringing somewhat cooler temperatures in the mid and upper 90s throughout the week.
