An autopsy is pending after a destructive building fire in Cottonwood Falls early Saturday.
Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker says an autopsy is planned Sunday after 74-year-old Sharon Tatman was found dead during a blaze that destroyed one of the five buildings at the Low Housing Development, 101 East Eighth.
The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 am and took nearly six hours to put out. It essentially destroyed the B building, including four units, the manager’s office, a mail room and a laundry room. The cause and origination point have not been announced. Dorneker says foul play is not suspected.

Several housing units were destroyed and a Cottonwood Falls woman is dead following a destructive fire Saturday morning.
According to Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker the fire was located at the Low Housing Development at 101 E. 8th Street in Southern Cottonwood Falls and was reported just before 4:20 am.
Dorneker tells KVOE News one occupant, 74-year-old Sharon Tatman, was extricated from her unit by fire crews and was pronounced dead at the scene. He says it is unclear at this time if Tatman died as a result of the fire of natural causes prior to the fire.
A cause and origination point have yet to be announced as the investigation is ongoing, however, Dorneker says foul play is not suspected at this time.
