The Kansas City Royals shut out the Los Angeles Angels 7-0 Monday night.
Zack Greinke and 5 relievers combined to shut out the Angles on 5 hits. Greinke struck out 5 and moved into the 20th spot for career strikeouts.
The game was scoreless thru 5 innings. Michael A. Taylor drove in the first run with a single in the 6th. The Royals added 4 runs in the 7th. Whit Merrifield scored on a wild pitch, his 500th career run scored. They added a run on a fielder’s choice and Michael A. Taylor drove in 2 runs with a single.
In the 8th M.J. Melendez hit a two-run home run.
The Royals and Angles play again Tuesday night. Angel Zerpa will be the starting pitcher for the Royals with the first pitch set for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
Salvador Perez is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Omaha Tuesday.
