Businesses connected to the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce are encouraged to take part in a survey as the Chamber continues its process for unveiling a new health insurance opportunity for those members.
The survey is underway now through Aug. 18, and business owners are receiving information from the Emporia Chamber on how to take part. Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says health insurance costs can have a major ripple effect on small busineses and their owners.
McKenna says having an association plan like Chamber Blue is important because it lowers overall risk and offers more health options — potentially with much more competitive pricing than if the businesses had their own separate plans. Eight options will be involved.
McKenna says Chamber Blue is a new benefit for Chamber members, but non-Chamber members can still research this option this year. Non-Chamber members would have to join the Chamber if they want to take part in Chamber Blue when it officially starts in January. Sign-up will take place from October to December after rates are set in September. Businesses can participate in Chamber Blue without going through the survey, but they have to go through the underwriting process if they don’t do the survey.
