The USD 253 Emporia Board of Education has approved its annual Emergency Operations Plan for the 2022-23 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Allison Anderson Harder presented the report which serves as the “blueprint” for emergency operations inside district schools. She tells KVOE News this pertains to situations such as traumatic injuries to natural disasters.
Anderson Harder says the EOP is a very straightforward process each year.
The EOP is separate from the district’s safety and security plan which is set to be presented by Human Resources Director Jared Giffin at a later time.
In other business, the board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the interest-based bargaining team for the 2022-23 school year. Thus far, only three changes have been requested by the IBB team.
The requested changes include:
* Taking three hours of teaching time and three hours of work time and re-allocate those hours to Professional Learning Time (PLT) for 2022-23 only.
* Expanding the personal illness pool to include maternity/paternity leave as a qualifying event.
* Increasing the Substitute pay rate for currently employed classroom teachers
– increase the rate of pay for secondary teachers from $20 per hour to $25 per hour
– increase the daily rate in the elementary formula from $100/day to $125/day
– add an additional section for secondary teachers that absorb the students of another teacher (at the request of an administrator) when a substitute isn’t available. This wouldn’t include career and academic planning (CAP), advisory or short leave situations.
The board approved the MOU unanimously. According to district administration, the requests will move forward as tentative changes until they are either ratified or rescinded by district educators.
Separately, board members also approved assorted handbook updates for all levels of education, the district’s athletic handbook and an addendum to the student handbook for the Flint Hills Learning Center.
The USD 253 Board of Education will next meet on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 6:30 pm inside of the Mary Herbert Education Center.
