A pair of federal charges have been filed against a Strong City man for his alleged involvement in the possession and distribution of child pornography.
26-year-old Walter James Haskin was recently arrested and charged with single counts of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. According to court documents obtained by KVOE News, the alleged activity occurred between November 2021 and May 2022.
According to the affidavit in the case, investigations were conducted over the past year and involved the Department of Homeland Security and the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force located in Wichita. The investigation allegedly found Haskin to be in possession of pornography depicting sexual situations involving a child under the age of 10.
Haskin is next scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Wichita Wednesday. If convicted, Haskin could receive up to 20 years in prison for the possession count and up to an additional 20 years for the distribution count.
Locally, Haskin was charged with theft in Chase County back in mid-January after an incident at the Flinthills One Stop in Strong City. Haskin was placed on diversion in that case back in April.
It is unclear at this time if the federal charges will have any effect on his diversion status.
