The Carnegie Library and the 2023 budget will be two of the main items of business for Emporia City Commissioners Wednesday.
During their regular study session, commissioners will resume conversations on the future of the Carnegie Library. The city has been accepting proposals for potential uses since early last month with two notable proposals submitted thus far.
Jason and Cassie Heffron have expressed interest in repurposing the former library and Historical Society location into an event venue which kickstarted the proposal process. Meanwhile, leaders of the Emporia Public Library have stated their intent to acquire the building to facilitate an overdue expansion.
Separately, commissioners will continue to review the 2023 budget. In their last meeting Jul. 20, commissioners approved publishing a notice of intent to exceed the revenue neutral rate and also to set the mill levy rate at 45 mills during their recent study session Wednesday.
During their regular action meeting, commissioners may award a bid for the 2022 Kansas Department of Transportation CCLIP project and appoint a new member to the Natural Resources Advisory Board.
The meetings will begin at 11 am inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
