Scorching heat continues across the KVOE listening area.
After triple-digit heat returned to area counties Monday, more of the same is in store for Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s air temperature could reach 102 in Emporia with heat index readings around 105. Wednesday could have a high of 100 and heat index readings around 103. As a result, heat advisories originally set to end Tuesday have been extended to Wednesday — expiring at 7 pm for Lyon, Coffey and Morris counties and at 8 pm for Chase, Greenwood, Morris and Wabaunsee counties.
Monday had a high of 100 with a peak heat index of 104. Sunday had a peak heat index of 104 despite a high of 94.
The only chance of rain in the current forecast is Wednesday, with a slight chance of storms by mid-afternoon and a better chance shortly before sunset. There is a marginal risk of severe hail and wind with the early-evening storms.
