M.J. Melendez drove in 2 runs with a double as part of a 3 run 8th inning.
Royals Manager Mike Matheny said they missed a big opportunity in the 4th inning.
The Red Sox scored the 7 runs on 13 hits.
The Royals and Red Sox play again Saturday night with Daniel Lynch on the mound for the Royals. First pitch is set for 6:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM beginning at 5:30 pm.
