As Lyon County works towards naming a new judge, Coffey County is doing likewise.
The Fourth Judicial District Nominating Commission will have a phone conference at 1:30 pm Tuesday to review nominations for a new magistrate judge position, created after action by the Kansas Legislature earlier this year.
Nominees need to be a resident of Coffey County; a graduate of a high school, secondary school or equivalent; and either a lawyer admitted to practice in Kansas or ready for certification within 18 months.
Interviews will be scheduled later this year.
In Lyon County, public interviews are slated for Thursday morning at the Lyon County Courthouse. Local attorney Jeremy Dorsey, Assistant Lyon County Laura Miser, Assistant Anderson County Elizabeth Oliver and Fifth District Magistrate Judge Doug Jones. The Fifth District Nominating Commission may well select candidates for Governor Laura Kelly’s approval by the end of Thursday’s meeting.
