The future of Maynard Early Childhood Center is up for discussion — and possible action — by the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education this week.
The district will consider a proposal from Simmons Pet Food to turn the facility into a child care facility, with Simmons partnering with an outside child care provider. Simmons, which submitted the only bid for the property by the Aug. 1 deadline, would pay $250,000 in cash if the district approves the plan.
Simmons’ proposal comes after the board voted unanimously to dispose of Maynard, 19 Constitution, as construction neared its conclusion on the brand-new Jones Early Childhood Education Center just west of Riverside Elementary.
In other business Wednesday, the board will have its annual budget review and could well approve its notice to exceed the revenue-neutral rate for the 2022-2023 budget. The board is also set to have an executive session to discuss Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder’s performance near the end of the meeting.
Board members will meet at 6:30 pm Wednesday at Mary Herbert.
