One of the six defendants in the Jesus Avila murder case has a status hearing this week.
Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde will be in Lyon County District Court at 2 pm. Judge Lee Fowler will oversee the hearing.
The hearing follows an agreement between prosecutors and defense attorneys in April to take his trial off the docket. There has been a lot of speculation about a possible plea, but Assistant County Attorney Amy Aranda has told KVOE News the agreement called for trial to be delayed and says it is not a plea at this time. Defense attorney Rick Meier has told KVOE News no plea has been entered.
Cornejo-Campoverde is accused of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and several other charges in Avila’s death from September 2017.
