The 2022 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is off and running.
The annual friendly competition between local first responders began Wednesday inside Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church. 87 appointments yielded 71 units of useable blood below the day’s goal of 96.
As is tradition, after donating residents were able to cast a vote for their favorite agency. After day one, Emporia Fire is in the lead with 39 votes, Law Enforcement is in second with 36 votes and the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center is in third place with 13 votes.
The blood drive will continue from noon to 6 pm Thursday and 8 am to 2 pm Friday. Appointments are still available and may be scheduled online at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 800-RED-CROSS.
