The 2022 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is now into its final day.
On day two Thursday, a total of 63 units of useable blood were collected above goal of 59 bringing the week’s total to 135 after 71 units were collected on day one Wednesday. Friday is the final day to donate to the drive with hours from 8 am to 2 pm.
Among those already to donate is Brian Jones who has the rarest blood type O negative. Because of this, Jones says he makes it a priority to donate whenever the opportunity arises.
As is tradition, donors have had the opportunity to vote for their favorite first responder agency over the past two days. As of Thursday, Emporia Fire is in the lead with 60 votes, law enforcement is in second with 55 and Emergency Communications has received 22 votes.
The winner of this year’s competition will be named shortly after the blood drive concludes Friday afternoon. If you would like to schedule an appointment you may do so online at www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 800-RED-CROSS.
