Pauline Stacchini has a lot of plans for the Emporia Public Library if she’s chosen as its next director.
Stacchini had her formal interview Wednesday. She’s currently the managing librarian at Austin Public Library in Austin, Texas, and she also worked in the Dallas library system.
One of her big ideas is to “turn up the volume” on the activities already in place at the library.
Stacchini says libraries are all about resources available to the public and serving as a place to exchange ideas. She says one of her focal points would be more work on connecting people to resources outside the library.
Current director Robin Newell announced her retirement effective in July, but she has continued as the library’s leader with a replacement not yet finalized. Maggie McKiethan, currently the director of the Spring Lake District Library in Spring Lake, Michigan, interviewed in May.
The library’s Board of Directors has not given a timetable for a decision.
