Lyon County will be republishing the 2023 fiscal year budget in response to the recent formula error committed by the county’s vendor this week.
Commissioners voted unanimously to republish the budget during their weekly action meeting Thursday morning. Commission Chairman Rollie Martin says there are no changes to the budget as it currently stands, Thursday’s action was strictly for legal purposes.
According to recent comments by city and county governments, the error that led to inaccuracies in 2022 estimated Ad Valorem tax notices occurred after “an incorrect formula” was entered into the equation by the county’s contractor Computer Information Concepts. Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat says she and her staff are making progress in updating and resending the notices to local taxpayers and is hopeful those may be ready by early next week.
Vopat says to her knowledge, there will be no alterations to any budgets as a result of the formula error. A public hearing on the budget will take place on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 10 am.
In other business Thursday, Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods presented a request from Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company to open cut County Road K north of the intersection of Road K and 90 to replace a defective pipe. Separately, County IT Director Chuck Boyce presented a request to approve a 3-year renewal purchase for Bitdefender antivirus from CDW Government.
Both requests were approved unanimously.
Commissioners will reconvene for their weekly action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
