For the most part, this upcoming week will be relatively mild.
Monday is the exception, continuing the weekend trend of temperatures close to or above 100 degrees. The projected high is currently 99 degrees at the Emporia Municipal Airport, near the 102-degree high for both Saturday and Sunday.
Showers and storms enter the forecast Monday night, although chances are slight. Changes go to moderate levels Tuesday and Tuesday night, with highs in the mid-80s Tuesday. Most of the rest of the week should be dry with highs in the low- to upper 80s.
The rain possible Tuesday may not have much impact on the moderate drought currently across most of the KVOE listening area just because of the timing. The Drought Monitor ends its weekly data collection on Tuesdays before it updates drought conditions Thursday mornings. Also, rain totals could well be under an inch across the area with much heavier totals in western Missouri. Areas south of US Highway 56 have been in moderate drought for over three weeks.
