When favorable conditions for golfing come to an end, that won’t mean you have to stop practicing your swing if an ongoing project through the Emporia Recreation Commission comes to fruition.
During the ERC’s monthly meeting Monday evening, Rec Director Tom McEvoy updated the board on an effort in cooperation with the Emporia Municipal Golf Course to install a golf simulator inside of the Lee Beran Recreation Center. The project is still in the early stages of planning according to McEvoy, however, if approved the project would likely cost a minimum of $50,000.
He says the ERC and golf course leadership are currently on the hunt for prospective vendors. McEvoy believes the simulator would see a “lot of use” if installed.
If approved, the simulator will likely be installed inside one of the racquetball courts, an area McEvoy tells KVOE News has seen a dip in participation in recent months. No formal action has been taken on the project as of yet and a timeline for the simulator’s installment, if approved in the near future, is not readily available.
In other business, McEvoy also updated the board on the installation of electronic door locks within the facility. He says the majority of the rec center already has the technology installed.
According to McEvoy the installations will take place on the viewing room door, gymnasium doors, sports office door and aquatics office doors. Wiring work has already taken place on each location. The cost of the work is right around $8,000.
The ERC Board of Directors will next convene in September.
