High expectations are set for the Emporia High girls golf team.
After making it to state in 2021, the Spartans look to do so again with a strong nucleus returning.
EHS returns its top two players in seniors Olivia and Avary Eckert, both of which qualified for day two of the state tournament last year.
Avary Eckert says she’s got goals for this year including repeating as the individual champion in the Centennial League and getting back to state as a team.
After taking second as a team at league last season, Olivia said they’re wanting to claim a championship.
Avary and Olivia’s sister, Elise is a freshman, while Ella Fessler and Lacey Rust also return. Keilara Owens will also be in the mix in her freshman season.
Coach Rick Eckert said he’s excited to coach this group.
The Spartans open up their season at 1 p.m. Tuesday with their lone home tournament at Emporia Golf Course.
