There was very little action, but an abundance of discussions during the Lyon County Commission’s weekly action meeting Thursday morning.
During the commission reports, County Controller Dan Williams announced the county’s sales tax collections were up for the month of August compared to July. According to Williams, August saw a total collection of just over $293,000.
Year-to-date, Williams says the county is ahead of last year’s collections by more than $204,000. Williams tells KVOE News the cause of the uptick is partly to do with inflation, saying as costs go up so to does the number of tax collections. Another factor is the level of community events that have resurged following the slowdown of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In other business Thursday, commissioners held three executive sessions, one for non-elected personnel and two for legal matters, with no action taken. County commissioners will reconvene for their weekly meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
