Hispanic Heritage Month begins Sept. 15, and Emporia’s community calendar has two big activities coming.
Up first, according to Nuestra Musica host Vic Rodriguez, is a campus celebration at Emporia State University on Friday.
Activities will be from 5-7:30 pm at the Memorial Union Square.
Activities shift to Las Casitas Park on Sept. 17, in part to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Emporia’s newest mural.
Hispanic Heritage Month was designated by President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, expanding the Hispanic Heritage Week first approved by President Lyndon Johnson in the 1960s.
