Community leaders and local business owners are fondly remembering longtime local florist Sharon Ewing who passed away Monday.
Ewing was best known as the owner of Designs by Sharon which opened in 1993. Riverside Gardens owner Vickie Triemer previously employed Ewing before she opened Designs by Sharon and says she was a hard worker who cared greatly for the customers.
In addition to her work as a florist — 45 years at the time of her passing — Ewing was also one of the first individuals to take advantage of the city’s Rural Housing Incentive District upper story development opportunity.
In cooperation with Emporia Main Street, Ewing began updating the second floor of her business at 703 Commercial Street back in December of last year. Ewing was planning to turn an existing three-bedroom apartment into a two-bedroom apartment with a den and also turn existing office space into a three-bedroom apartment.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods referred to Ewing as a “force.”
Funeral arrangements for Ewing are currently pending.
