The Emporia High gymnastics team opened their season with a duel at Newton Tuesday night.
Newton won the duel.
Emporia High gymnasts did pick up two first-place finishes.
Journey Walburn placed 1st on the balance beam. She also placed 2nd on the floor exercise, 3rd on the uneven bars, 4th on the vault, and 3rd All-Around.
Laney Cooper placed 1st on the vault, 3rd on the balance beam, 4th on the floor exercise, 5th on the uneven bars, and 4th All-Around.
Chloe Fischer placed 5th on the floor exercise and 6th on the beam and bars.
The Emporia High gymnastics team is scheduled to compete in a meet at Lawrence on Saturday.
