Central Oklahoma scored 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to upset the Emporia State football team 21-13 Thursday night.
The Hornets scored first on a 6 yard touchdown run by quarterback Braden Gleason.
Central quarterback Stephon Brown tied the game on a 3 yard run in the 2nd quarter.
Emporia State retook the lead in the 3rd quarter on a 79 yard catch and run by Cory Thomas, the missed extra point gave the Hornets a 13-7 lead going to the 4th quarter.
In the 4th quarter Central quarterback Stephon Brown threw a 13 yard scoring pass to Nasir Kemper and added a 19 yard touchdown run to give the Bronchos a 21-13 lead.
Emporia State did have the ball 1st and goal at the 10 with under 5 minutes to play but could not score.
Coach Garin Higgins said they failed to execute offensively.
Emporia State did roll up 468 yards of offense. Quarterback Braden Gleason threw for 411 yards and a touchdown.
Central did outgain the Hornets 194 rushing yards to 57.
Dawson Hammes did have an interception for Emporia State. The Hornets did not turn the ball over.
With the loss the Hornets are now 1-1 for the season. They will host Missouri Western next Saturday. Kickoff at Welch Stadium is set for 1 pm.
