It was a rough night for the Emporia High football team against Liberal Friday night at Welch Stadium.
The Redskins had 683 yards of total offense in their 53-0 victory over the Spartans.
Liberal struck first with a 26-yard touchdown reception by Zayden Martinez to make it 7-0 with 2:07 left in the first quarter.
The Redskins added on two more receiving touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 20-0 at the break.
Emporia High had a chance in the third quarter after Liberal turned the ball over on downs, but were stopped inside the 10-yard line. Liberal then scored a 86-yard touchdown reception to extend its lead to 28-0. The Redskins added two more touchdowns in the third and two in the fourth.
Derrick Keys led the Spartans in rushing with 33 yards on 13 carries. Sheldon Stewart was 10-of-20 for 95 yards passing with his top target being Bobby Trujillo who had four catches for 16 yards.
EHS drops to 1-1 and begins a two-game road swing with a road contest at Salina Central Friday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs are also 1-1 after a 47-33 loss to Goddard Eisenhower.
