Work on the fifth USD 253 Emporia school building as part of the multi-million dollar Building for the Future bond initiative is now underway.
District administration, project management and Village Elementary School staff and students all gathered on the playground of Village Thursday afternoon for a groundbreaking ceremony to note the commencement of renovations. Eric Woltje of McCownGordon Construction says as they near the end of the scheduled projects, it is exciting to see all of the promises made to taxpayers four years ago coming to fruition.
Zach Snethen of HTK Architects says it has been a great experience to see designs go from conception to reality.
USD 253 Board President Leslie Seeley says updates to Village have been needed for many years as the school always seems to be “busting at the seams.”
The project will include a new office space, high winds shelter, multimedia room and updated kitchen space. Woltje says work is tentatively scheduled to be completed by September of next year.
Work on Village follows the completion or near completion of renovations to Walnut Elementary School and Emporia High School and construction of the new Jones Early Childhood Education Center. Work has also commenced on Logan Avenue and William Allen White Elementary Schools and is set to begin soon on Emporia Middle School.
A groundbreaking for EMS is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 29.
