The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have classified Lyon County’s COVID-19 transmission rate as “high.”
In a news release from Lyon County Public Health Tuesday, the agency says the county’s transmission rate is now 259 per 100,000 population. The CDC says this rate is higher than most other counties in northeast Kansas.
As such, Public Health is making several recommendations to help limit the amount of COVID transmissions across the county. Public Health Information Officer Justin Ogleby.
Due to vaccinations or previous infections, Ogleby says most citizens have some level of immunity which has decreased the number of severe or fatal infections. However; while deaths and hospitalizations are down from the height of the pandemic, Ogleby says the virus can still have a significant adverse effect both in schools and the workplace if transmissions continue at the current rate.
