Roughly 18 months after it went online, the Americus sun farm is outperforming operations on several fronts, according to 4 Rivers General Manager Dennis Svanes.
Svanes also says the sun farm has been helping the equivalent of 215 homes for the Americus coverage area, which is better than 4 Rivers executives expected.
The sun farm was tested regularly this past summer with high temperatures at or above 100 degrees on several occasions.
The facility has more than 3,500 solar panels which are capable of generating around 400 watts of power each. The facility came about out of a partnership between 20 electric cooperatives and Today’s Power out of Arkansas which was designed to help produce 20 megawatts of solar energy.
Temperatures will be at or just below 100 degrees Monday and Tuesday — with heat index readings as high as 105 — after a high of 100 and heat index of 102 Sunday.
