Saturday will have the annual Walk to Defeat ALS taking place in Emporia.
Spokesperson Kelly Bosak of the ALS Association’s Mid-America Chapter says it’s a time to celebrate and remember.
It’s also a time to look forward because the event helps to fund medical items and ongoing research. ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. At this time there is no known cure.
Activities will be at Jones Park, with registration beginning at 8 am and the walk to start around 9 am. People can register on-site or go online to www.walktodefeatals.org.
It’s the first time the event has been held in person since 2019. Activities the prior two years were shifted to virtual formats the last two years due to COVID-19.
