Emporia State’s Alumni Association announced the recipients of the 2022 University Service Citation Awards on Tuesday.
Dr. Scott Waters was honored for his 38-year career as an Emporia State professor after teaching in elementary schools in Kansas and the Philippines before joining the Teachers College in 1986. While at ESU, Waters — who has retired — coordinated the Kansas Master Teacher Awards and directed the Kansas Future Teacher Academy among other projects.
Bev Buller, a retired teacher and librarian, also was the School of Library and Information Management’s library media coordinator. She is also involved in the William Allen White Community Partnership and the William Allen White Children’s Book Awards program.
Mike and Carol Petitjean established the Petitjean Family Scholarships program for students in Phi Sigma Kappa and Alpha Sigma Alpha, as well as a second scholarship program. Mike Petitjean has also served on the ESU Foundation Board since 2013.
The Service Citation program honors people who have made “unique and significant contributions” to ESU as a whole, as well as its students and staff.
