The 15th annual Poetry on the Porch event at Red Rocks State Historic Site will have the presence of an Emporia native poet and recent award winner.
Poetry on the Porch is a local event that supports and highlights local poetry and the legacy of William Allen White. Every year, Red Rocks brings select poets to entertain the community and hopefully inspire future poets.
Local storyteller Roger Heineken explained why this event is the most consistent and well-attended they have at Red Rocks on KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment Tuesday:
This year, Emporia State English professor and 2017-19 Poet Laureate of Kansas Kevin Rabas will be hosting the event, with the featured poet being Emporia native Brenda White who recently won the Kansas Notable Book Award for her first book of poems Blue Collar Saint.
Poetry on the Porch is a free event and will start at 2 p.m. this Sunday. An open mic will follow White’s presentation and all local poets are invited to attend.
