The 2022 Emporia Community Foundation’s Match Day is a little more than a month away and Monday, the local community received its first introduction to a few of the organization’s involved this year.
On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, ECF Director Becky Nurnberg joined the program alongside five of this year’s 28 organizations. Nurnberg says this year will be exciting as they have nearly every local county represented.
Amongst the 28 organizations are eight new participants including the Street Cats Club. Director Victoria Partridge says donations from match day will go to assist with the agency’s Trap Neuter Return program and medical expenses for local strays.
Also new to the lineup this year is the Emporia Baby Closet. Beginning under the umbrella of the First Congregational Church of Emporia, the organization became an individual non-profit earlier this year.
Spokesperson Becky Goodman says with the increased cost of baby supplies and the decrease in available childcare, Match Day comes at a perfect time.
Also on the list of participating organizations is Food for Students which has been a part of Match Day since the beginning. The non-profit provides food to USD 253 students affected by food insecurity.
Spokesman Chris Walker says without Match Day the organization would not exist.
Returning for the second year is Project Playscape which is currently wrapping up work on the new Americus ball fields. Spokesperson Britney Hinrichs says with that longstanding project nearing an end, the organization is looking to put this year’s Match Day funds towards the construction of a new splash pad.
Local Veteran Gary Post also joined Monday’s segment representing VFW Post 7957. Post tells KVOE News their Match Day funds will go to facilitate local public services such as placing flags on veterans’ tombstones each Veterans Day.
This year’s Match Day will take place on Nov. 14 and will include $70,000 in matching funds from local organizations and donors. Additional information on Match Day, the participants and how to donate can be found online at Emporiamatchday.com.
KVOE will continue its series of Match Day previews over the next month leading up to the event. The next preview is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 17 at 11:06 am.
