Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has issued updated drought declarations across the state of Kansas as part of a recent executive order.
Executive order 22-08 keeps all of Kansas’ counties either in watch, warning or emergency status. In the KVOE listening area, Lyon, Chase, Coffey and Morris counties are in a drought warning.
Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in a drought watch while Greenwood County is one of more than 60 counties placed into a drought emergency. According to the latest US Drought Monitor report, extreme drought covers the majority of Greenwood County with exceptional drought along the Greenwood Elk County line.
Moderate drought continues nearly across the entirety of Lyon County as well as all of Osage County, the majority of Chase County and the northern end of Coffey County. abnormally dry conditions continue to cover Morris and northwest Wabaunsee counties.
Since Sept. 1 the KVOE studios have received just 1.8 inches of rain.
