The Kansas City Royals did not waste time in firing Manager Mike Matheny and pitching coach Cal Eldred.
Royals Executive Vice President/General Manager J.J. Picollo announced the firings Wednesday night. He said they did not meet expectations.
Picollo says they will cast a wide net in searching for the next manager.
Picollo says several people will remain with the team.
Picollo believes the Royals are an attractive team.
The Royals finished the season with a record of 65 and 97.
