“Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
That’s the theme of National Prevention Week underway now through Saturday, and Emporia Fire Marshal Reason Bradford spent some time encouraging fire readiness on KVOE’s Morning Show on Monday. Bradford says it’s fairly simple to set up a plan so everybody’s ready in case of an emergency.
Another key part of the plan should be a gathering point, whether it’s a front mailbox, somewhere else on your property or a neighbor’s house that everybody can remember.
Bradford also talked about other basic steps, including furnace and chimney checks, using ovens for cooking instead of heating, keeping space heaters away from combustible materials and the use of lithium batteries in smoke or carbon monoxide detectors.
