Now that the rain chances are over for at least a week, a short-term combination of dryness and low humidity will increase the fire danger.
Thursday could see the most dangerous conditions as northwesterly winds at or above 30 mph get added to the mix. A fire weather watch is up for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 1-7 pm Thursday. Fire weather watches often get upgraded to red flag warnings, which will mean automatic burn bans for affected area counties.
Fire danger will still be elevated Wednesday despite rainfall early in the day.
