Periodically, KVOE News updates you on different phone scams. A new one is apparently circulating.
KVOE listeners say they have been contacted by callers allegedly representing Medicare. However, the listeners say they were tipped off to potential scams after the callers started asking to verify Medicare card, credit card or other personal information. The callers can also be persistent, with one apparently calling a listener 16 times at 30-second intervals earlier this week.
The apparent phone scam is underway at an important time for Medicare recipients. Open enrollment begins Saturday and continues through Dec. 7.
If you receive a call like this, hang up and report it to local law enforcement.
