After medical care continues for the better than 80 cats and two dogs pulled from an Emporia home due to poor living conditions earlier this week, the Emporia Animal Shelter and Street Cats Club are asking the community to help the intake animals — in part, by adopting currently available pets.
On KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Friday, Humane Society of the Flint Hills Director Stephanie Achille announced a special pet adoption event this weekend.
Adoptable animals are on PetFinder. This will help to create space so the intake animals can be housed inside as their recovery processes continue.
The Street Cats Club has been heavily involved in this rescue since the preparation process began Tuesday. Director Victoria Partridge says cats, insects and excrement — were all over the place. She also says the cats were not prepared for the removal process.
After taking on 10-plus cats this week and connecting with other rescues across Kansas, Partridge says the Street Cats Club is urging residents to adopt or foster cats. Residents interested in fostering pets can find Street Cats Club on social media. Partridge also asks residents to spay and neuter their cats — and to donate now because donations will get a percentage match through the group’s involvement in the Emporia Community Foundation’s Match Day.
Both Achille and Partridge say they are grateful to community residents for their donations. Besides financial donations, Achille says litter boxes, bath towels, paper towels and cleaning supplies are needed at this time, as well as flea bath medications and pet combs.
