Emporia Fire dealt with two small fires Saturday.
The first fire happened shortly after midnight under the Kansas Highway 99 bridge at Soden’s Grove. Fire Capt. Willie Ward says some embers from a campfire spread from the fire site on a sandbar into some dried vegetation nearby. The fire was put out as a precaution so it wouldn’t have a chance to damage the bridge.
The second fire developed just before 7:30 pm at 1303 West Ninth. Battalion Chief Jesse Taylor says an oven fire developed and was out by the time fire crews arrived. Damage was limited to the oven.
