The general election isn’t for another three weeks, but this is an important week for this election cycle.
Tuesday is the last day to register to vote or change current registration, followed almost immediately by the opening of the advance ballot process. Mail ballots start going out Wednesday, and Lyon County Election Officer Tammy Vopat expects a decent percentage of total votes will come by mail this cycle.
Residents can register or change their registration at courthouses across the state or they can do so online, either at www.kssos.org or www.ksvotes.org.
Wednesday is important for another reason — the start of Lyon County’s special offsite voting opportunity at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Hours will be from 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday and Friday, 10 am to 6 pm Thursday and 9 am to 1 pm Saturday.
In-office voting begins Oct. 24 at the Lyon County Courthouse. The last day to apply for a mail ballot is Nov. 1. Advance voting ends at noon Nov. 7.
