A historic season ended on a grand note for the Emporia High girls’ golf team on Tuesday.
The Spartans finished second at state with a two-day score of 675, 25 strokes behind state champion Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
Coach Rick Eckert said it was unexpected.
Coach Eckert called it a great accomplishment.
Individually, senior Avary Eckert finished in a tie for fourth with a two-day score of 152.
Senior Olivia Eckert finished eighth with a score of 157.
Freshman Elise Eckert shot 174, good for a tie for 14th.
Junior Ella Fessler finished with a two-day score of 192, while freshman Peyton Owens finished with a 222.
At the 3-2-1A tournament, Osage City finished in 6th place. They were led by Peyton Pitts who finished in 19th place. Council Grove’s Alison Bachura finished in a tie for 32nd place.
At the 4A tournament played at Emporia’s Golf Course, Wamego repeated as team champion. Addison Douglass of Wamego took medalist honors.
