Improvements are needed at several city parks and the Lee Beran Recreation Center, and the Emporia Recreation Commission is looking at how to move that process along.
The board had to delay most of its business Monday, including a full conversation on the potential work ahead and the history behind them, after not reaching a quorum. However, Rec Commission Director Tom McEvoy says the conversation is picking up speed.
Part of the conversation is the locations — Santa Fe and Whittier parks, the DeBauge Family Sports Complex formerly known as TRYSA and the Lee Beran Recreation Center. Part of the conversation is the work flow. Part of the conversation is how to pay for all this work. McEvoy estimates the total cost at over $40 million, which is more than what the Rec Commission can pay for on its own — so the board also has to consider other funding avenues.
One item on the agenda, full-time staff getting the option to purchase supplemental insurance if desired, was allowed.
