The calendar says the general election isn’t until Nov. 8, but the election is unofficially underway in Lyon County.
Mail ballots started going out Wednesday to residents requesting that option, and Deputy Election Officer Amie Jackson says around 800 ballots were mailed — above the roughly 700 total for the August primary. Also, the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building is now the site of the county’s annual offsite voter location through Saturday.
The voting process comes with concerns both statewide and nationwide about election security and stability after the 2020 presidential election. Lyon County Election Officer Tammy Vopat says the county does everything possible to make sure the vote is safe and secure.
Vopat also says voters can be confident in Lyon County’s election approach. Having said that, Vopat is concerned the perceived issues haven’t gone away.
Offsite voting hours will be from 10 am to 6 pm Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm Friday and 9 am to 1 pm Saturday. Advance voting in the Lyon County Courthouse begins Monday and ends at noon Nov. 7.
