As concerns continue about election security, both for the votes and people connected to elections, US Attorney Duston Slinkard has announced an Election Day Program to handle concerns and complaints.
Assistant US Attorney Jared Maag will serve as the District of Kansas election officer, meaning he’s responsible for handling concerns about voting rights, threats of violence to election officials or staff and election fraud. Slinkard says federal law protects residents against a range of election-related criminal activity, including violence against election officials or staff, intimidation, bribes, impersonating voters, altering vote tallies, stuffing ballot boxes and marking ballots for voters without consent.
Residents with complaints or concerns can call Maag at 785-295-2850. Residents wanting to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigations with allegations of election fraud or abuse can call 816-512-8200. Residents with complaints about possible federal voting rights violations can also call the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division in Washington, DC, at 800-253-3931 or by filling out an online form at https://civilrights.justice.gov/. Residents with concerns about election violence and/or intimidation should call 911.
