A Hamilton couple lost their home and everything inside due to a fire this week.
Greenwood County Fire Chief Glen Collinge says the fire was reported at 2562 W Road just east of Hamilton shortly after 9 am Wednesday. Hamilton Fire responded, found “heavy fire conditions” and requested mutual aid.
Firefighters got inside, only to back out and fight the fire from the outside after it rapidly spread. Everybody inside, including pets, evacuated safely but the house is considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Besides Hamilton’s fire department, fire units from Madison, Virgil and Eureka responded, as did Greenwood County deputies, Greenwood County EMS, Evergy and the American Red Cross.
Residents willing to help the fire’s victims, Kim and Damon Brothers, are asked to open their homes to at least one of the couple’s four medium-sized dogs, either on a temporary or permanent basis. They are also asked to donate money to the family through the Eureka Herald, PO Box 590, Eureka KS 67045.
