Fire crews from Marion and Chase counties along with the Kansas Forest Service have spent the majority of Sunday battling a fire near the county line.
The fire developed along Kansas Highway 150 near the Marion Chase County line just before 11 am between C Road in Chase County and Clover Road in Marion according to Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh. Crews from Chase County, Newton, Peabody, Heston, Marion and the Kansas Forest Service all arrived at the scene and battled the fire for nearly eight hours.
According to Chase County Fire Chief Steve Fillmore, Cedar Point firefighters were still on scene as of 8:30 pm, however, all other Chase County fire units have cleared the scene. The Forest Service utilized a fire fighting aircraft through Ag Air Service, Inc. which made at least two water drops over the fire.

Chase, Marion and Morris counties along with the Kansas Forest Service continue to battle a large grass fire along Kansas Highway 150 Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported after noon and originally developed between mile markers 7 and 8 on KS 150 near Elmdale. The fire was reported to be moving northeast towards C Road with steady winds at 29 mph and gusts as high as 50 mph reported.

1:20 pm: Chase and Marion County firefighters battling grass fire along Kansas Highway 150
Area fire crews are in the process of battling a large grass fire along a state highway.
According to the Chase County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was reported between mile markers 7 and 8 along Kansas Highway 150 shortly after noon. At last word the fire was moving northeast along C Road.
The exact size of the fire is unclear at this time. The Sheriff’s Office has reported winds as high as 29 mph with gusts of 50 mph in the area.
