Jobless numbers continue at low levels across the KVOE listening area and the state of Kansas as a whole.
The jobless rate for September was 2.6 percent across Kansas, up slightly from the August rate of 2.5 percent. Labor economist Emilie Doerksen says labor growth, while not robust, was notable.
Emporia’s jobless rate dipped from 2.9 percent in August to 2.4 percent in September. There were some concerns about an increased jobless rate after Emporia State announced over 30 dismissals and terminations last month, but many of those won’t finalize until the end of the calendar year and some may not be processed until the end of the academic year next summer.
Lyon County also went from 2.9 to 2.4 percent between August and September.
Areawide, all counties are below 3 percent unemployment and all but Coffey and Osage counties are below 2.5 percent. Chase County has the area low at 2.1 percent. Coffey County has the area high at 2.9 percent.
