Lyon County deputies are alerting residents of a new scam effort.
Deputies say somebody has been calling residents identifying himself as Deputy Baker. That person is requesting money to pay for fines, DNA testing or other fees.
The Sheriff’s Office has a Deputy Baker — Deputy James Baker, to be specific — but deputies say they will never call to ask for money over the phone. Deputies also do not have any secret bar codes to scan at Walmart for payments — and they do not accept any payments through Apple iTunes or other gift cards.
If you get such a call, whether it comes from the Sheriff’s Office or anybody else, it’s a scam. Hang up and report it to law enforcement.
