Formal charges are now on the books in an attempted murder case in Lyon County.
Shortly after he was arrested in Emporia on Monday, the Lyon County Attorney’s Office filed charges against Logan Casteel. He’s currently facing one count of attempted first-degree murder with an alternate count of aggravated battery.
Casteel, 37, is accused of trying to kill Fredonia resident Justin Smith on Oct. 17 at 625 Road 160. Lyon County deputies have not released further information about the case and court documents have not expanded on the situation.
Casteel’s first court appearance is at 1:15 pm Tuesday in front of Lyon County Judge Doug Jones.

A man wanted after an alleged shooting incident just west of Emporia last week has been arrested.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch announced the arrest of Logan Casteel, age 37. Koelsch says deputies received a tip for Casteel’s potential whereabouts at 1217 Exchange Apartment 3 in Emporia shortly after 10 am Monday. Deputies arrived and took Casteel into custody without incident.
Casteel had been wanted after an alleged shooting at 625 Road 160, about a mile west-southwest of Emporia, on Oct. 17. Justin Smith, age 38 of Fredonia, was taken to a currently unspecified out-of-town hospital for treatment after initially going to Newman Regional Health.
Formal charges are pending against Casteel. Lyon County deputies are still investigating the alleged shooting and subsequent events with this case.
